on the Launch of the ASEAN Training Centre
for Social Work and Social Welfare (ATCSW)
3 November 2019, Bangkok/Nonthaburi, Thailand
At the 35th ASEAN Summit today, the ASEAN Leaders launched the ASEAN Training Centre for Social Work and Social Welfare (ATCSW). The establishment of the ATCSW is an activity led by Thailand under the ASEAN Social Work Consortium (ASWC) Work Plan 2016-2020 and Beyond.
The ATCSW is envisaged to be a leading training centre on social work and social welfare in ASEAN. The work of the Centre will involve four areas: to develop and provide training courses and curriculum; to provide technical and professional skills and knowledge; to promote and develop quality of trainings and skill development; and to enhance collaboration amongst relevant stakeholders among ASEAN Member States.
The establishment of the ATCSW is another major deliverable in support of Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship theme of “Advancing Partnership for
Sustainability” and reaffirms our shared goal of achieving a people-centred ASEAN Community that leaves no one behind and looks to the future. Once operational, the ATCSW, located in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, will be a platform for the promotion and recognition of social work as a profession that can make social impacts and contribute towards social development, social cohesion, and empowerment of peoples in ASEAN.
